If you haven’t exercised regularly for a long time, don’t worry. I understand that the gym can be an intimidating place. It is filled with beautiful strong people who seem to know exactly what they are doing. People who aren’t sure what they should be doing can feel out of place because of it.
Maybe you’ve followed a friend through their workout or you’ve already come in and tried to figure it out on your own. Maybe you were one of the resolutioners who were great for a month or two just to fall flat. It might seem at times that exercise just isn’t for you. Well, I assume you exercise is for you, but it’s just been tough to figure out how to get started. That’s what trainers are for!
We’ll start with a quick warm-up that will literally raise the temperature of the blood and muscles so they can act more efficiently during the workout. The warm up also dilates the blood vessels serving all of those muscles, lubricates the joints, and causes hormonal changes needed for increased energy production.
Once you are warmed up, we’ll start with a few basic machines and move on to some basic movements that we all do regularly in our daily lives. We’ll keep it nice and simple.
For the first few sessions, we’ll keep the weights fairly light. Still, you may experience some muscle soreness. If this happens, tell me! We’ll adjust the workout so the muscle soreness is manageable and doesn’t have a negative effect on your life away from the gym. Remember, exercise to live don’t live to exercise. → Managing muscle soreness.
By starting simple and light, we can overcome the intimidation and you’ll be well on your way to an active life and good health. Remember, all of those beautiful strong people working out in the gym are beautiful and strong because they work out!
